The State Room, part of the Longwood Venues collection, is one of Boston’s most iconic wedding venues, and for good reason. Perched on the 33rd floor of 60 State Street, this modern venue pairs sweeping panoramic views of the city and harbor with top-tier service and elegant, minimalist design.
As a Boston wedding photographer with over 15 years of experience, I’ve been lucky enough to photograph a handful of events at the State Room. And every time, I’m reminded just how dramatic this space is for a celebration that’s equal parts luxurious and unforgettable.

The View – Floor-to-ceiling glass walls that frame the skyline and Boston Harbor. It’s breathtaking during golden hour, moody and romantic at night, and iconic in every direction.
Versatility – Whether you’re planning a grand celebration or an intimate affair, the venue has multiple event spaces that adapt to your vision.
Modern Elegance – The architecture is sleek and minimal, allowing your decor to shine.
Location, Location – Right in the heart of downtown Boston, you’re minutes from photo-friendly spots like Post Office Square, Faneuil Hall, and the waterfront.
The Great Room – 2400+ sq. ft. with 20-foot ceilings and that unforgettable 120-foot glass wall. Ideal for larger weddings and show-stopping receptions.
Harborside Rooms – Perfect for smaller weddings, elopements, or rehearsal dinners. These spaces offer more intimacy but still deliver on views.
Ceremony Options – Many couples choose to host both ceremony and reception onsite, taking full advantage of the venue’s built-in flow and style.
Photographing here is a dream, but it also requires finesse. The abundance of natural light during the day is fantastic, but the glass walls can create reflection and backlighting challenges, especially for evening ceremonies. The good news? I’ve worked at the State Room many times and know how to anticipate those conditions and use them creatively.
I also work closely with my couples to plan portraits. Whether you want to take advantage of the skyline inside, or sneak away for city shots nearby, I can help build a timeline that gives you space to soak it all in without feeling rushed.
Time & Access Logistics – Being in a high-rise downtown can add complexity for arrivals, portrait sessions, and vendor timing. I help clients navigate these details smoothly, including first-look locations or pre-ceremony portraits nearby.
Lighting Transitions – From bright day to deep twilight, the lighting here changes fast. My experience ensures your photos are consistent and beautiful across every part of the day.
Flow of Events – With multiple floors and room transitions, I help create a visual story that feels seamless and focused.
