Candid, unscripted and authentic wedding photos will always be the best. There is nothing quite like that found moment, when something magical is happening, the light is beautiful and as the photographer I'm in the right place to capture it. People will refer to it as photojournalism or having an editorial style approaching weddings. I much prefer 'editorial' as what I strive to do for each and every wedding is to tell the story of one of the milestone days in the lives of the bride and groom and their family.
This particular image is a perfect example of one of those amazing candid moments. I have arrived at the church maybe five minutes earlier, the family was starting to arrive and we were all very early for the ceremony. That is rare in and of itself! People were waiting around, chatting and the ring bearer started to wander off a little and explore the big empty church. I don't recall where he got the flower but I remember the second I saw what he was doing my camera was glued to my face and I was shooting. I had to be quiet not to ruin the moment but the ring bearer was completely in his own little world and I managed to capture a few images before he ran off to explore something else. I simply love this photograph and all that it has to say about that particular wedding day.
